MATH 600: Assessing Mathematics Learning and Modeling Mathematics in the Primary Grades

ANNOUNCING A VDOE MATH SCIENCE PARTNERSHIP SPONSORED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY

PRIORITY: (A Focus on Designing Performance-based Assessment and Modeling Math) Elementary Grades K-3 classroom teachers and specialists (Math, Coaches, Special ed, ESOL, GT teachers and Administrators) who support elementary school math teachers DATES: Session 1: Summer institute: June 24-27(Mon-Thurs) 8:30-3:30pm Fall Follow-up: Sept. 16 (M), Oct. 21(M), Dec 2 (M) from 3:30-600pm and One designated School Based Lesson Study date with Substitute funds Session 2: Summer institute: July 29-Aug 1 (Mon-Thurs) 8:30-3:30pm Fall Follow-up: Sept. 16 (M), Oct. 21 (M), Dec 2 (M) from 3:30-600pm and One designated School Based Lesson Study date with Substitute funds LOCATION: GMU FAIRFAX Campus

Teachers will participate in Summer professional development institute (3 graduate credit) focused on mathematics content and pedagogy Modeling mathematics ideas aligned to the VA Standards of Learning (SOL) Designing Performance Based Assessments Follow-up School-based Lesson Study in the Fall semester

Benefits to the teacher participant in the program

• 3 graduate credits in Mathematics course work
• Course text and Resource notebook
• USB with lessons and assessment developed by participants
